That always brings about reflection for me. I practice living my life one day at a time and I am well aware of the spiritual significance of staying in the moment. Even with the knowledge that NOW is the only real time it is easy to get caught up in remorse over the past or worry about the future. I think we all do it to some degree. Today as I was writing in my journal I was reminded of something I’d read a couple of years ago. It was about the importance of being intentional in our thoughts and actions. Attention to intentions as it were. Isn’t that a good idea for the new year? Instead of New Year’s Resolutions we can have New Year’s intentions. That’s because everyone is an individual with their own individual experiences and life journey.We all have stories about growing up and going through all the changes and challenges that life brings. It is important to recognize your self importance. Not in an egotistical way, but rather for the value that each person has. It is good to have a healthy recognition of that. When you come to the realization that your life matters–that all lives matter–you can then better relate to how your life story is worth sharing with others. Don’t Be A BoreNobody likes a pompous bore, so it is important to understand what “self importance” means in regards to sharing your story through memoir or life story. We don’t need to include every little detail of our lives. Who could remember them all anyway?One of the great things about memoir writing is that you can take sections of your life, or themes, or insights, and shape them into a narrative that can provide both value to the reader and a healthy review of your life journey. You truly can draw strength and inspiration from learning how others meet the varied circumstances that are inevitable in life.
Life Experiences Help You GrowOne of the joys for me in reading a memoir is discovering how the author has grown through all their life experiences. The same could be said as a writer. I am continually learning more about myself from my past experiences. If I have done well I can acknowledge it and yes, appreciate it. More importantly, if I should have done better I can chalk that up to a learning experience and hopefully do better next time.All of this helps us get a realistic and honest self appraisal of self importance. It’s okay to acknowledge our good deeds and take pride in them, just as it is vitally important to maintain humility and keep learning.
