Greetings "Your past is your story up to now. The future is the story yet to come. The present is where you live with that experience, your hopes and your dreams."
Your Life is Your Story Newsletter March 22, 2014 Issue #114 - Nostalgia and Reminiscence From Tom Gilbert – Editor and Writer, www.your-life-your-story.com In this Issue: Opening remarks: Spring Forward Featured Article: How Nostalgia Drives Reminiscence Featured Resource: The Journal Computer Software
Opening Remarks: Spring ForwardOne of the benefits of living out west in New Mexico is our climate. Contrary to the belief of some, we don’t have year-round heat, although it is a desert climate. In Albuquerque the elevation is about one mile, so we have a high desert climate and there are mountains nearby that rise to over 10,000 feet. We have seasons. It can get hot in the summer, but quite cold in the winter. Fortunately, we don’t have the brutal winter conditions like they do up north or back east (where it seems this year’s winter weather is never ending!).With over 300 days of sunshine and the pleasant Spring temperatures for the past month we’ve certainly sprung forward into the season of “rebirth”. I enjoy this time of year; it often spurs my creativity. Thank you to all our subscribers. I hope you enjoy this month’s issue. Thanks for reading. – Tom Featured Article: How Nostalgia Drives ReminiscenceBy Tom Gilbert - Copyright © March, 2014There are many things that prompt our reminiscence of past events in our life. When we embark on personal history projects, such as a memoir or family history, we necessarily go through periods of reminiscing. A good Personal Historian can guide interviews so as to gather key memories. Sometimes one thing sparks another. During an interview I try to listen very carefully so that when the person suddenly remembers something important I let them run with it. My list of questions is just a guide; the story emerges from the storyteller.
